A Clinical Study of Chronic Renal Failure

Abstract
Recurrent hemodialysis has become a successful form of therapy for patients with end-stage Chronic Renal Failure. At the present time, several hemodialysis centers in Korea are actively involved in maintaining and rehabilitating patients having essentially no renal function.
We are reporting a clinical study of our 1 year experience with 19 hemodialysis patients whose mean age was 41 years. All but 3 of 19 patients who had hypertension during the course of their dialysis were controlled by fluid removal and antihypertensive medications. One of these patients responded to transplantation. The major causes of death were cardiovascular, infectious complications and voluntary termination of dialysis.
This clinical study of our experience in hemodialysis has allowed prospective planning in an attempt to improve both the survival and quality of hemodialysis patients. The need for intensive and continuous socioeconomic and psychologic evaluation is discussed.
